Imam Ibn al-Qayyim (rahimahullah) has mentioned four ways to strive against the soul and they are as follows: Firstly: By holding the soul to account, Secondly: By opposing it and not following its whims and desires, Thirdly: By making it patient in Allaah's obedience and Fourthly: By making it patient in refraining Allaah's disobedience."

A man once asked Abû Hurayrah(r.a) – may Allâh be pleased with him, ‘What is al-taqwâ?”
He replied, “Have you ever taken a path filled with thorns?”
The man replied, “I have.”
Abû Hurayrah(r.a) asked him, “What did you do?”
He replied, “When I saw a thorn I would dodge it or pass over it or behind it.”
Abû Hurayrah(r.a) said, “That is al-taqwâ.” [Al-Bai...haqî, Al-Zuhd Al-Kabîr]

"A sign of the heart's death is the absence of sadness over the acts of obedience that you have neglected and the abandonment of regret over the mistakes that you have made." [Ibn Ataillah RadhiAllahu Anhu]

“If a respectable good man sits with you, you would be watching every word you utter so that you do not say something wrong. Yet, you know that your words are watched by Allah [Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala] but you still do not watch the words you utter!" (said by Hatim Bin Al-A’sim)

"In the evening do not expect [to live until] the morning, and in the morning do not expect [to live until] the evening. Take [advantage of] your health before times of sickness, and [take advantage of] your life before your death." [Ibn 'Umar (RadiAllahu Anhu)]

lIf knowledge is useful without actions, Allah, the Exalted would never have dispraised the people of the book, and if actions were useful without devotions, He would never have have dispraised the hypocrite. By Imam Ibn Qayyim Al-Jawziyyah

Question By Non Muslim : When Islam is against idol worship why do the Muslims worship, and bow down to the Kaaba in their prayer?
"MUSLIMS WORSHIP THE KAABA???"
Kaaba is the Qibla i.e. the direction Muslims face during their prayers. It is important to note that though Muslims face the Kaaba during prayers, they do not worship the Kaaba. Muslims worship and bow to none but Allah...

THE SPHERICAL SHAPE OF THE EARTH ::..
In early times, people believed that the earth is flat. For centuries, men were afraid to venture out too far, lest they should fall off the edge. Sir Francis Drake was the first person who proved that the earth is spherical when he sailed around it in 1597. Consider the follow...ing Qur’aanic verse regarding the alternation of day and night: “Seest thou not that Allah merges Night into Day And He merges Day into Night?” [Al-Qur’aan 31:29]
Merging here means that the night slowly and gradually changes to day and vice versa. This phenomenon can only take place if the earth is spherical. If the earth was flat, there would have been a sudden change from night to day and from day to night.
The following verse also alludes to the spherical shape of the earth: “He
created the heavens And the earth In true (proportions): He makes the
Night Overlap the Day, and the Day Overlap the Night.” [Al-Qur’aan39:5]
The Arabic word used here is Kawwara meaning ‘to overlap’ or ‘to coil’– the way a turban is wound around the head. The overlapping or coiling of the day and night can only take place if the earth is spherical.
The earth is not exactly round like a ball, but geo-spherical i.e. it is flattened at the poles. The following verse contains a description of the earth’s shape:
“And the earth, moreover, Hath He made egg shaped.” 2 [Al-Qur’aa
79:30] The Arabic word for egg here is dahaha, which means an ostrich-egg. The shape of an ostrich-egg resembles the geo-spherical shape of the earth. Thus the Qur’aan correctly describes the shape of the earth, though the prevalent notion when the Qur’aan was revealed was that the earth is flat.

The study of Tawheed cannot be considered complete without a careful analysis of its opposite, Shirk. Some mention of Shirk has already been made in the Tawheed page and examples of it have been given to illustrate how Tawheed may be obliterated. However, in this Page Shirk will be looked at as a separate topic whose g...rave importance Allaah has attested to in the Qur'aan,
"Surely Allaah will not forgive the association of partners (Shirk) with Him, but He forgives (sins) less than that of whomever He wishes." [Soorah an-Nisaa, 4:48]
Because the sin of Shirk denies the very purpose of man's creation, it is to God the gravest of sins; the unforgivable sin.
Shirk literally means partnership, sharing or associating, [The Hans Wehr Dictionary of Modern Written Arabic, p.468]
but Islamically it refers to the act of assigning partners to Allaah in whatever form it may take.

..:: NO RACISM IN ISLAM ::..

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "All men (includes women) are equal in Islam, the Arab has no superiority over the non-Arab, nor does the non-Arab have superiority over the Arab, save in the fear of God."
O mankind! We have created you from a male and a female, and made you into na...tions and tribes, that you may know one another. Verily, the most honourable of you with Allâh is that (believer) who has At-Taqwa [i.e. he is one of the Muttaqûn]. Verily, Allâh is All-Knowing, All-Aware. (Quran 49:13)
Islam is not a racist religion, nor does it preach racism. The peoples of
other faiths have always enjoyed religious toleration under Islam; when the Jews were being persecuted in the rest of Europe, they found freedom and sanctity in Muslim Spain. Their historians regard that as one of their Golden Eras. In the Muslim countries today, Christians are permitted to practice their faith as freely as any country.

Misconception: How can Islam be called the religion of peace when it was spread by the sword? Read the article to know the truth
WAS ISLAM SPREAD BY THE SWORD
It is a common complaint among some non-Muslims that Islam would not have millions of adherents all over the world, if it had not been spread by the use of force. The following points will make it clear, that far from being spread by the sword, it was the inherent force of truth, reason and logic that was responsible for the rapid spread of Islam

Islam means peace.
Islam comes from the root word ‘salaam’, which means peace. It also means submitting one’s will to Allah (swt). Thus Islam is a religion of peace, which is acquired by submitting one’s will to the will of the Supreme Creator, Allah (swt).

2. Sometimes force has to be used to maintain peace.
Each and every human being in this world is not in favour of maintaining peace and harmony. There are many, who would disrupt it for their own vested interests. Sometimes force has to be used to maintain peace. It is precisely for this reason that we have the police who use force against criminals and anti-social elements to maintain peace in the country. Islam promotes peace. At the same time, Islam exhort it followers to fight where there is oppression. The fight against oppression may, at times, require the use of force. In Islam force can only be used to promote peace and justice.
3. Opinion of historian De Lacy O’Leary.
The best reply to the misconception that Islam was spread by the sword is given by the noted historian De Lacy O’Leary in the book "Islam at the cross road" (Page 8):

"History makes it clear however, that the legend of fanatical Muslims sweeping through the world and forcing Islam at the point of the sword upon conquered races is one of the most fantastically absurd myth that historians have ever repeated."

4. Muslims ruled Spain for 800 years.
Muslims ruled Spain for about 800 years. The Muslims in Spain never used the sword to force the people to convert. Later the Christian Crusaders came to Spain and wiped out the Muslims. There was not a single Muslim in Spain who could openly give the adhan, that is the call for prayers.
5. 14 million Arabs are Coptic Christians.
Muslims were the lords of Arabia for 1400 years. For a few years the British ruled, and for a few years the French ruled. Overall, the Muslims ruled Arabia for 1400 years. Yet today, there are 14 million Arabs who are Coptic Christians i.e. Christians since generations. If the Muslims had used the sword there would not have been a single Arab who would have remained a Christian.

6. More than 80% non-Muslims in India.
The Muslims ruled India for about a thousand years. If they wanted, they had the power of converting each and every non-Muslim of India to Islam. Today more than 80% of the population of India are non-Muslims. All these non-Muslim Indians are bearing witness today that Islam was not spread by the sword.

7. Indonesia and Malaysia.
Indonesia is a country that has the maximum number of Muslims in the world. The majority of people in Malaysia are Muslims. May one ask, "Which Muslim army went to Indonesia and Malaysia?"

8. East Coast of Africa.
Similarly, Islam has spread rapidly on the East Coast of Africa. One may again ask, if Islam was spread by the sword, "Which Muslim army went to the East Coast of Africa?"

9. Thomas Carlyle.
The famous historian, Thomas Carlyle, in his book "Heroes and Hero worship", refers to this misconception about the spread of Islam: "The sword indeed, but where will you get your sword? Every new opinion, at its starting is precisely in a minority of one. In one man’s head alone. There it dwells as yet. One man alone of the whole world believes it, there is one man against all men. That he takes a sword and try to propagate with that, will do little for him. You must get your sword! On the whole, a thing will propagate itself as it can."

10. No compulsion in religion.
With which sword was Islam spread? Even if Muslims had it they could not use it to spread Islam because the Qur’an says in the following verse:
"Let there be no compulsion in religion:
Truth stands out clear from error"
[Al-Qur’an 2:256]
11. Sword of the Intellect.
It is the sword of intellect. The sword that conquers the hearts and minds of people. The Qur’an says in Surah Nahl, chapter 16 verse 125:
"Invite (all) to the way of thy Lor
with wisdom and beautiful preaching;
and argue with them in ways that are
best and most gracious."
[Al-Qur’an 16:125]
12. Increase in the world religions from 1934 to 1984.
An article in Reader’s Digest ‘Almanac’, year book 1986, gave the statistics of the increase of percentage of the major religions of the world in half a century from 1934 to 1984. This article also appeared in ‘The Plain Truth’ magazine. At the top was Islam, which increased by 235%, and Christianity had increased only by 47%. May one ask, which war took place in this century which converted millions of people to Islam?
13. Islam is the fastest growing religion in America and Europe.
Today the fastest growing religion in America is Islam. The fastest growing religion in Europe is Islam. Which sword is forcing people in the West to accept Islam in such large numbers?
By Dr Zakir Naik

Many of the world's 6 billion people do not believe in Allah as the only GOD worthy of worship. In fact, most either associate partners with ALLAH.

Allaah the Glorified said: "Allaah is the Creator of all things…" [Az Zumar: 62]

He also said: "Is there any creator other than Allaah who provides for you from the sky (ra...in) and the earth? La ilaaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He)." [Faatir: 3]

He said: "Blessed is He in Whose Hand is the dominion; and He is Able to do all things." [Al Mulk: 1]

He said: "Surely, His is the creation and commandment. Blessed is Allaah, the Lord of the 'Alameen (mankind, jinn and all that exists)!" [Al ‘Araaf: 54]

Translation In English Language
Being humen, we all crave to have the best in life, to get the best in life, and to be the best in life. Don't we? How many times have these thoughts crawled in our brains?
"I want to be the best employee or the best student!" "I want to own the best mobile, the best car and be married to the best wife."
Dear brothers and sisters, as Muslims has the thought ever come to us that "I want to be the best Muslim?" Leave alone working for it, have we ever just thought about it?
Well, now that this topic has come up, give it a second thought. If you believed that to be the best of Muslims you need to spend your full day in the Masjid or fast everyday of your life, you were wrong!
Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) gave us a simple formula to be the best:

"The best amongst you is the one who learns the Qur'an and teaches it." (Al-Bukhari)
Subhan Allah, as simple as that! It doesn't require you to be on your prayer mat 24/7. No, the key is Allah's speech – the Qur'an.
Hold on to it even if it's by starting to read a page everyday (make sure you understand it). This is something that Allah has ordered in the Qur'an.
"And hold fast, all of you together, to the rope of Allah (i.e. the Quran), and be not divided among yourselves; and remember with gratitude Allah's favors on you..." (Qur'an, 3:103)
"And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? " (Qur'an, 54:17)
Benefits of reading the Qur'an:
• Fulfils an Islamic duty
The Prophet (peace be upon him) summarized the Religion in his statement: "The Religion is naseehah (sincerity)! " So the Companions asked, "For whom'" He replied: "For the sake of Allah, His Book, His Messenger, the leaders of the people, and their common folk." (Sahih Muslim)
Sincerity to the Book of Allah includes reciting it regularly, learning the rules of Tajweed and trying to beautify our recitation, understanding its meaning, Tafseer and the reasons for revelation, and most importantly affirming that it is the Truth, the perfect Speech of Allah and not part of the creation. We honor it by learning it, implementing it in our lives, teaching it and calling people towards it. So by reading and reflecting over the Qur'an, we fulfill an obligation and will Insha Allah be rewarded for that.
• Intercession on the Day of Judgment
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Read the Qur'an, for verily it will come on the Day of Judgment as an intercessor for its upholders." (Sahih Muslim)
All those early mornings we spent reciting the Qur'an will Insha Allah bear its full fruit when it really matters: the Day of Judgment. We can't even imagine how it will be, when the Qur'an will intercede for those who honored it.
May Allah make us among them, Aameen
• How much in 5 minutes?
I'm sure you're familiar with the famous Hadith, "Whoever reads a letter from the Book of Allah, he will have a reward. And that reward will be multiplied by ten. I am not saying that "Alif, Laam, Meem" is a letter, rather I am saying that "Alif" is a letter, "Laam" is a letter and "Meem" is a letter." (Al-Tirmidhi)
Subhan Allah, can you imagine the weight of good deeds that will be added to your right side by just reciting one verse? This is really a blessing for all of us..
There is no end to the benefits of reading the Qur'an. Also, our wisdom and thoughts develop positively, giving us a clear and intellectual understanding of life if we seek guidance from the Qur'an, the Book of our Creator.
May Allah make us among the people of the Qur'an and make the Qur'an a witness for us on the Day of Judgment and not against us.
So go ahead, learn and teach the Qur'an, and make yourself among the best of Muslims Insha Allah.
